This is not a picture of an insect. It is a Sally Lightfoot Crab, originally identified in the Galapagos Islands. While it is not an insect, it looks like a kind of insect because it is in the same phylum as insects, arthropoda, that is, animals with an exoskeleton (meaning its ‚”bones‚” are on the outside in the form of a hard shell) and jointed limbs. (Not to be confused with orthopods, a shorthand way of designating physicians whose specialty is limbs and joints.)
