Note that some of the puffins in this group have their mouths full of fish, probably to feed their growing young. Puffins occupy the same ecological niche in the Arctic that penguins occupy in the Antarctic, except puffins can fly and penguins cannot. But penguins don’t need to fly because they have ice to live on that does not melt (until recently), since the ice sits on land. Puffins live in a much more variable environment.
